HORSE JUMPER OF LOVE THE IDIOT/THE CAR KNOWS THE WAY
Horse Jumper of Love share Disaster Trick B-sides ‘The Idiot’ and ‘The Car Knows The Way’. The dual singles are outtakes from the Boston band’s fifth studio album released last year, but they thrive independently, standing stronger as standalone tracks beyond the context of the record. Frontman Dimitri Giannopoulos has acknowledged that the tracks have their own stories to tell. ‘The Idiot’ is inspired by the eponymous Dostoevsky novel, detailing a naïve return to reality. ‘The Car Knows The Way’ occupies the same space of innocence and uncertainty, giving in to the idea of the car guiding the way. With slow, wandering guitar melodies and lyrics that feel lost in thought, ‘The Idiot’ and ‘The Car Knows The Way’ echo similar intervals of stillness dotted throughout Disaster Trick, which largely takes on a more immediate sound. While being separate to the album, these tracks are a transitory reminder of Horse Jumper of Love’s refined ability to make quieter, restrained moments feel as heavy and impactful as their loudest ones. -Kayla Sandiford
